Welcome to New TAX 118!
At James Macdonald for Mayor, we understand the importance of transparency when it comes to taxes. Our main goal here is to ensure that there are no new sales taxes imposed on our community.
There are many good idea's how to get money, the people who tell you it is a good idea to keep adding new ways to get money always say I will just start a tax for it. April 25, 1985 was the start of the Oregon lottery and all proceeds were supposed to go to funding our schools. By the second year rule changes entered that arena and other hands started getting a piece of the pie. The good thing about the lottery is you have a choice, you don't have to play. In the 90's I fought Mayor Vera Katz who wanted a 3% sales tax at the register, we still do not have a tax like that one, which cripples citizens of Los Angles and Seattle every day today. The last time I got a loan from a bank on a handshake from the bank manager was 1979 First National Bank. He gave me the money so I could buy a car that day. The next week I showed up at the bank and signed the paperwork, those days do not exist anymore. In the last 4 years new taxes have been levied at a corporate level that you never see or hear about. We have been dealing with inflation which in the beginning was said to be only temporary, 4 years later inflation is not stopping. One of the architect of this new tax has friends who have been trying to get some form of tax that they will have a hand in it. This tax and all numbers provided are just guesses and payment will be made as a tax credit or check. The really crazy part they talk about this tax is it is a way of wealth redistribution for the poor. Collection of the monies or charges will be about 3% on goods sold at a corporate level and it is not on the profits it is on net sales, that means even if the products made no money the tax will still be collected. If you want to fix the tax laws or loop holes change the rules don't make citizens pay more taxes. If you listen to the interview of the main front person he says at one point monies distributed after costs and administrative costs. ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS?????
Portland Oregon is one of the highest taxed cities in The United States, let's stop adding to our problems.
